Class Descriptions:

Back Care (Mondays @ 10 AM, 5:30 PM, Tuesdays @ 6:30, Wednesdays @ 10 AM, 6:00 PM, Fridays @ 10 AM
For all types of back problems, pain and postural problems including scoliosis. Come lengthen your spine and move out of the habitual behaviors that are making your back hurt! All levels welcome including those new to yoga and beginners.

Yoga & Scoliosis (Saturdays @ 12:15 PM, Wednesdays @ 6:00 PM)
For students with a lateral curvature(s) of the spine. The focus is on extension and working with issues affecting people with scoliosis such as balance, proprioception, strength and reducing compensatory patterns. All levels welcome including those new to yoga.

Intermediate Yoga & Scoliosis Level II / Backcare Level II (Mondays @ 7:15 PM / Thursdays 6:30 PM)
For students with mature yoga practice or who have been taking the Yoga & Scoliosis or Backcare class on a regular basis for a minimum of 1 year.  All poses will be modified with props and awareness techniques so each student can move along with his/her practice. There will also be some focus on inversions.

Yoga & Scoliosis for Teens & Tweens (Thursdays @ 4:30)
For ages 11-17. All teens welcome, but as idiopathic scoliosis is so common in these years the class will generally focus on scoliosis.  This 1-hour class creates an environment that is less intense than the adult classes and is sequenced for a young person’s energy level. Classes are sold as a 4–week $60 series.

Yoga & Scoliosis for Students with Harrington Rods & Other Surgical Fusions (Saturdays @ 2 PM)
Because of the contraindications with Harrington Rods and other instrumentation, being in a general class—even one focused on scoliosis or back problems—can be frustrating. This class covers all the principles and poses of the Yoga & Scoliosis classes but without twists, convex forward bending, backbending. The practice will help strengthen muscles around the fusion in an aligned manner, bring stability to hypermobile joints or open up very stiff areas—without destabilizing the body or the instrumentation itself.

Restorative (Fridays @ 6:00 PM)
T
his class is for students of all levels.  By supporting the body with props, poses are held longer.  Poses emphasize deep release and rejuvenate the body and mind.

Intermediate Classes (Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 10 AM)

Intermediate postures and variations are taught.  For students who have established their own yoga practice, are strong in standing postures, regularly practice inversions and backbends, and have a basic understanding of the principles and alignment of Iyengar or Alignment-Based Yoga.  The morning classes are particularly suited to teachers and more advanced practitioners.  These are not therapeutic backcare classes.

Yoga Union Lunchtime Basics (Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 12:15 PM)
These classes are suitable for all students to develop a knowledge of the fundamentals of alignment and to master the basics of the foundation poses.  $15

Women's Class (Mondays @ 1 PM)
Asanas to accommodate women's needs including; menstruation, pre- and post-natal, fertility, menopause and any other conditions, curiosities and concerns the students have regarding women's health $17

NO NEW BEGINNERS:  This means new to yoga practice.  You may attend the Yoga Union Intermediate Classes, Scoliosis II or Backcare II if you have experience practicing yoga and even if you are new to the Center.  Please do not attend these classes if you have only attended a few yoga classes in the past.  If you feel unclear, please call or email the Center to check in with the teacher to see if the class is for you.
